An ad management dashboard for a major Italian publisher

A dashboard that shows a publishing group's managers how much ad space is still available and how running campaigns are performing. It replaced a very expensive commercial tool.

Client
A leading multimedia publishing group in Italy
Year
2025
Role
Backend lead, in a team with another backend developer and two frontend developers

Context

The group sells advertising across its platforms. Its managers and marketing director need to know at any moment how much ad space is still available, and how the campaigns already running are performing.

Problem

They were using a commercial product that was expensive and far more complex than their day-to-day needs.

What I built

I led the backend for about three months, working with another backend developer, while two frontend developers built the interface. The dashboard connects to Google Ad Manager, where the group runs its advertising, and turns its data into clear answers.

  • Availability forecasts. Before a campaign is sold, the dashboard uses Google Ad Manager’s forecasting to show how much ad space is still free.
  • Campaign performance. The current results of running campaigns, in one place.
  • Fast search. Most of the data is kept in a local search index (Elasticsearch), so searching and filtering doesn’t have to call Google’s API every time. That keeps it fast and cuts costs.
  • Built to scale. The backend services were designed to stay efficient as data and usage grow.

Tech used

  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • NestJS
  • Elasticsearch
  • Google Ad Manager API

Result

Replaced a costly commercial tool with a simpler, faster one built around the team's needs

The team got a much simpler experience and the company reduced its costs. Answers come back fast, because most of the data is stored locally and ready to search.
